Description de la séance

This side event spotlights innovative financing approaches that place local governments and civil society at the center of biodiversity conservation and sustainable, inclusive economic development. Building on over a decade of UNDP’s Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) in partnership with the GEF, the session presents concrete, field-tested solutions that unlock finance for nature at the local level. Through multi-region case studies, participants will explore how targeted policy shifts, capacity strengthening, and multi-stakeholder collaboration mobilize resources and ensure equitable, long-term impact. An interactive panel will unpack enabling conditions and effective partnerships that make these approaches work in practice. The event also marks the official launch of GEF BIOFIN Voices—part of the ‘GEF Voices’ platform—spotlighting innovators in biodiversity finance and elevating nature’s value for economic and financial decision-makers, in collaboration with the GEF, GBFF, and UNDP Nature’s BIOFIN programme.
