Explore how healthy ecosystems underpin both wildlife conservation and human well-being. Shane Mahoney shows how One Health connects ecosystem integrity with nutrition, livelihoods, and resilience, while Peregrine Wolff illustrates real-world disease spillovers affecting mountain ungulates across continents, demonstrating the practical applications of One Health for global conservation and public health.

Description de la séance

This session highlights the inseparable links between ecosystem integrity, wildlife conservation, and human health. “One Health and Human-Centred Conservation: Bridging People, Wildlife, and Ecosystems” explores how the One Health framework connects biodiversity, nutrition, livelihoods, and disease resilience, showing how community-driven strategies can support both ecological and societal well-being. “Clash of Species, Clash of Pathogens: One Health in Action Across Borders” examines disease spillovers in mountain ungulates across North America, Europe, and Central Asia, using the 4Cs framework to show how pathogens, environmental change, and wildlife interactions intersect. Together, these talks demonstrate how embedding One Health into conservation policies and practices can mitigate risks, enhance resilience, and create landscapes where people, wildlife, and ecosystems thrive together. Participants will gain insights into actionable strategies that unite biodiversity protection with human health.
