Yan Lu, a passionate conservationist dedicated to Endangered Primate conservation in China with special attention to gibbons. Graduated from University College London with Master's degree in Conservation. She has been working for 8 years for Fauna & Flora International China on the Primate Conservation Programme. She is deeply involved in species conservation projects, including Guizhou Snub-nosed Monkey, Francois langur, Hainan gibbon, Cao Vit gibbon, Western black-crested gibbon, and Endangered Magnolia. Taking the lead in developing the Cao Vit gibbon China-Vietnam transboundary conservation project and Western black crested gibbon conservation network development. She edited several species conservation action plans and public conservation awareness booklets on rainforest biodiversity and Karst biodiversity.
In 2015, she founded Cloud Mountain Conservation, a local NGO dedicated to gibbon conservation in China, together with Prof. Fan Pengfei and Wildlife photographer Zhao Chao.
In the past ten years, she led the team that made several important progress on conserving the endangered Skywalker hoolock gibbon and Western black-crested gibbon. For example, CMC annually publishes over 50 popular science articles on gibbon and other primates conservation and research; organizes more than ten public awareness-raising events; completes the Skywalker hoolock gibbon nationwide population survey, and monitors those populations in the community forest; and pilots a community-led conservation model on some innovative conservation actions. She currently serves as Co-Chair of IUCN SSC PSG Section on Small Apes, and she is also a board member of the China Primatology Society.
