Biografía
Shane Mahoney is the Vice-Chair of IUCN’s CEESP/SSC Sustainable Use and Livelihoods Specialist Group. A former employee of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, he served as Chief of Wildlife Research for the province from 1994-2003, when he accepted the position of Executive Director of Sustainable Development and Strategic Science. In 2001, he founded and subsequently led the Institute for Biodiversity, Ecosystem Science and Sustainability at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Shane is the Founder, President and CEO of Conservation Visions Inc., a private company and global wildlife initiative focused on providing a broad scope of services to stakeholders within both the domestic and international conservation communities. Shane’s areas of expertise include wildlife, the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, sustainable use, global natural resources policy, and population ecology of large mammals. He remains a vocal proponent of sustainable use as a conservation practice, and a strong believer in the benefits of communicating conservation science to the general public. He has recently completed work as Special Guest-Editor on his second Monograph for the International Journal of Environmental Studies (IJES); his first Monograph, Conservation and Hunting in North America, was published in 2013. - Member of the Sustainable Use Committee for the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (AFWA)
