Stewart MAGINNIS

Biografía

Stewart Maginnis ha trabajado durante más de 35 años en el ámbito del desarrollo sostenible y la conservación de la biodiversidad. Ha vivido largos períodos en Tanzania, Sudán, Ghana y Costa Rica, donde llevó a cabo trabajos de conservación sobre el terreno. Lideró el desarrollo y la promoción de la restauración de paisajes forestales (FLR), una de las primeras Soluciones basadas en la Naturaleza diseñadas con este propósito, a la cual más de 60 países han comprometido más de 210 millones de hectáreas en el marco del Desafío de Bonn.

Junto con su equipo en la UICN, ha trabajado durante los últimos 12 años en la definición y promoción del concepto de Soluciones basadas en la Naturaleza, apoyando su aplicación frente a los desafíos del cambio climático, la seguridad alimentaria e hídrica y la reducción del riesgo de desastres.

Actualmente es Director General Adjunto de la UICN, responsable del programa de trabajo de la organización.

Stewart estudió en la Universidad de Oxford y en Queen’s University Belfast.
