Description de la séance

For over twenty years, Abu Dhabi has implemented the Arabian region’s longest continuous seabird breeding monitoring program, covering species nesting during both cooler winter months and the extreme heat of summer on undisturbed offshore islands. This pioneering initiative has generated vital ecological insights, identified key knowledge gaps, and led to the protection of critical breeding sites—many now designated as Important Bird Areas and part of the emirate’s Protected Area network. The program has advanced species-specific conservation through targeted measures such as habitat enhancement, artificial nesting structures, and minimizing disturbance at breeding colonies. Modern technologies—including satellite telemetry, camera traps, and drone-based surveys—have further deepened understanding of migration routes, dispersal patterns, breeding biology, and site fidelity.
