Join us in shaping the future of birdwatching in Brazil in a responsible, ethical way that contributes to biodiversity conservation.

Descripción de la sesión

Birdwatching in Brazil has seen significant growth in recent years. Events involving researchers, government agencies, businesses, and the community (including children) have been attracting more and more participants each year. Aware of this growing interest, ICMBio, in partnership with the Federal University of Goiás and the University of Brasília, has been active in several conservation units within the Cerrado biome (Brazilian savanna), home to several endangered bird species. Data highlighting Brazil’s birdwatching potential will be presented. It is clear that birdwatching can increase visitation to conservation units, generate income for local communities, and foster partnerships in Citizen Science. However, some challenges remain, and a discussion is needed to understand how best to mitigate the activity’s impacts, learn from the experiences of other institutions and countries, and maximize its benefits. SAVE Brasil and BirdLife International are partners in this event.
