Prof. Jatna Supriatna is one of Indonesia’s foremost conservation biologists, with a distinguished academic and professional career spanning decades. He earned his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Biological Anthropology from the University of New Mexico, USA (1986, 1991), followed by postdoctoral research at Columbia University’s Center for Environmental Research and Conservation (CERC), New York. His career began as a researcher at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), later continuing as lecturer and professor at Universitas Indonesia (UI). Between 1995 and 2010, he served as Executive Director and Vice President of Conservation International Indonesia. At UI, he founded the Research Center for Climate Change (RCCC-UI) in 2010, followed by the Institute for Sustainable Earth and Resources (ISER) in 2018 and the SDG Hub in 2020, advancing the role of academia in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Internationally, he was appointed Co-chair of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN SDSN). He has also been an active member of IUCN World Commission on Protected Area and SSC Primate Specialist Group.
