Por qué asistir

Explore how to implement the Kumming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) species and population genetic indicators for national conservation planning and ground action for species. The session will highlight national case studies to develop a decision support approach based on the Red List, EDGE and Ne>500 indicators.

Descripción de la sesión

Genetic diversity provides basis for adaptation and resilience for species, populations and ecosystems in a rapidly changing world. In line with the GBF, this session will look at ways of building strategies to conserve as much representative diversity as possible at national scale. Exploring Goal A indicators, participants will be introduced to national applications for conserving species and their inherent genetic diversity from populations to entire branches on the Tree of life. Red List indicator assesses extinction risk. Ne>500 indicator measures the proportion of populations within species that are large enough to maintain genetic diversity and adaptive potential. EDGE index monitors the conservation status of the most Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered species. Participants will be presented with tools developed to quantify these indicators and will be invited to share their impressions to help facilitate their deployment nationally. This way, they will contribute to the ongoing development of these tools.
