Por qué asistir

Join IUCN/IUCN WCEL as we showcase how we have equipped negotiators and policymakers with cutting-edge tools, policy guidance, and legal frameworks to implement a future global plastics treaty at the national level. Donors and partners: Discover how your support drives real-world impact – with or without a Treaty in place.

Descripción de la sesión

We will showcase the linkages of different pollution treaties and other multilateral environmental agreements, especially the need for interconnectivity and regime convergence, including how to address issues (such as biodiversity, health, and international cooperation) which are crosscutting within a future Plastics Treaty. This is a dynamic speaker pitch focused on the needs and capacities of African countries, Least Developed Countries (LDCs), and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Interactive questions to reflect on include: How can we build long-term partnerships for sustainability? How can capacity building models be used effectively? What are the gaps in financing that need to support effective polices – including some ideas for potential financial mechanisms for countries? How did the recent Norway/Norad funder project support for the IUCN/Grid-Arendal "AFRIPAC" initiative for negotiators generate positive impact in West Africa and the negotiations for a plastics treaty?
